Me to littles – take your sheets off your bed so I can wash them

Middle little -Oh no!!! Our beds are naked

Yesterday there was a house mouse in the toilet at daycare

Can I tell you that the littles have told me this story 647,839,901 times since we picked them up yesterday at 5pm 🐁🐁🐁

Of course they are convinced that they could have put socks on their hands, caught the mouse, brought him home and subsequently fed him to Mr Nubs 🐹

Mr Nubs – the cat who sleeps 23 1/2 hours a day and doesn’t want to chase anything but the hallway carpet

Today’s foster care journey is brought to you by supervised phone calls with bio parents.

Some people frown on doing this. I tend to get on the phone and say “do you have questions” and in essence, try to convince them that I am not a serial killer

It is very important to me for the kids that come here to see that I will have a good relationship filled with grace and dignity with their relatives.

No matter what my heart or head may say – the kids need that sense of stability. It helps them process everything a little bit more

So tonight I am learning to extend that grace to myself. It is ok to set limits and boundaries with everyone.

And you know what – life gets a little easier #thisisfostercare

My husband is assigned to doing the girls’ hair at night. Tonight was the quickest bubble bath in the history of bubble baths because – and I quote-

“We get to watch the you tube with Simon when he does our hair”

He watches the “how is it made” videos with them and they have extensive non-dusty conversations 😂

I am not the cool parent at all
Though – I did get hugs before bed and watched three little girls sing a lullaby to Darth Vader

My husband, my daughter, my two sons are inside with the littles. I am posting from the quiet of the front porch.

Please tell me why three littles are standing at the front door calling my name.

When they aren’t calling my name- they are flicking the porch light on and off 😂😂😂

The daughter returns from college tonight for a couple of days and I am slammed with last minute Via Colori Kentucky stuff plus Garvin Gate Blues Festival stuff

But there is giggling and laughing and more giggling coming from their room and that is enough to say it is all worth it.

And apparently I am making a truck load of Belgian waffles for dinner tonight because that was the directive from General 6 year old 😂😂

FYI- stickers are slowly making their way to the outlawed in my house list

So in an effort to give them more space – we made the 2 beds bunk beds. What I have really done is given them an obstacle course complete with hiding spots, trampoline, climbing challenges and a place to throw toys that is REALLY HIGH. bonus points (apparently) if you hit the ceiling light 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

How do I know about said obstacle course – well it is the assumption I have made just by listening to their conversations when they think adults aren’t paying attention. There is an awful lot of giggling and screaming and I think, but the tone and depth of the screech, one of them might have turned into a barn owl over night 😂
